This series, led by Dr. Sam Ladner, will equip applied researchers with the skills to effectively and safely integrate AI into their qualitative analysis. Using MAXQDA, participants will learn a practical framework applicable across diverse research contexts. Dr. Ladner will demonstrate how to elevate findings to impactful insights using both the software and established techniques. Participants will gain familiarity with AI-powered tools and confidence in their analytical abilities, ultimately learning when and how to best utilize AI for excellent qualitative research.

1. When and why use AI in Qualitative Research: We review the capabilities of AI in general, and the specific model and architecture of AI in MAXQDA. Dr. Ladner then offers best practices for using AI in qualitative research, given its strengths and weaknesses. We start a qualitative analysis project using MAXQDA and show how to get a project file set up to use AI well.
 
2. Early analysis using AI: The session starts with a review the best practices of using AI in qual research, shows some examples of how researchers have used it and then dive into the sample research project, using MAXQDA and its AI capabilities. The group will see how to get their hands dirty with AI and be prepared for pitfalls like excessive cognitive off-loading.
 
3. Taking advantage of MAXQDA in analysis: We dive into the sample project file and start pulling out insights real time. Participants will see how to transition from coding to insights and how to automate the heavy lifting without compromising the goodness of deep insights.
 
4. Conclusion drawing and getting the most out of your data: We will again go into our project file and see what well-coded project file can do for your current (and future!) projects. We will see how to draw inferences from a well-coded project and how to set up a project for future use.

I have a PhD in sociology and have authored peer-reviewed articles and 2 books (with one more forthecoming). I have 17 years applied research experience in major organizations such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Workday. I have implemented MaxQDA in all 3 of those companies and trained internal researchers on how to use it in applied research settings. My training would be appropriate for applied researchers working in roles such as market researcher, UX researcher, mixed methods researcher.
